For my AS Media Coursework, I have to make a blog. This is the starting day and as a starting point, I have been roaming the site to see what I can do. In doing this, it helps me to familiarize with Blogger so I will know what to do when it comes to uploading my coursework.

Over the past week, I have been focusing on target audiences of certain magazines. I found out what magazines do to appeal to specific audiences and have also been looking into representations in magazines.

Today I have been finishing off work that I have been doing during the week. This includes writing about the social ramifications caused by a magazines representations. I plan to upload this to my blog during the following week. I have also made a start to my 500 word analysis of a magazine cover – as a part of the research for my student magazine – and have written my glossary.

At the start of today’s lesson, I attempted to upload all of the work I had completed onto my blog; these were my analysis of 5 magazine covers, glossary, 500 word analysis of a magazine cover and my essay for the social ramifications caused by a magazines representations. However, I wasn’t able to upload them as I am facing difficulties with my blog account. As I am not able to upload onto my blog, I plan to make a start on the IPC case study, which is the next task on my sheet.

Today I am going to try and sort my account out so that I am able to upload the work I have been doing and so that I am on top of all my work. Luckily, my work has uploaded however not quite how I wanted it to go up. When I posted it, the font had changed and so had the sizing. It looks different to the rest of the page and it doesn’t flow like I want it to. This has also happened to a girl in my class and we are trying to find a way to change it to the way we want. This was all I got done today as it hasn’t taken me a long time.

Over half term
I have started to my preliminary brief. I began by thinking of any initial ideas I had for the cover of my product and I made a draft for my proposal. I mentally planned some flat plans and nearer the end of the week, I made some actual flat plans using Microsoft Word. My blog has stopped working again; therefore I have decided that instead of wasting time trying to fix it, I am going to carry on concentrating on my work and just upload it as of when I am able to. I managed to get my preliminary brief done over half term which means I can now focus on my designing work.

In today’s lesson, I made a start to the first draft of the front cover of my student magazine. Though before this, I decided to have a play around with InDesign as I had never used it before. I wanted to familiarize myself with it so I knew what I was doing. Me, Katie and Bryony also went around college to take photographs to use as potential images for our magazine. We used different locations to add variety and we took a selection so we had more to choose from. We came out with some good images that I feel could be really useful for my magazine.

Over the last two weeks, I have been continuing with my design work. I have produced 2 drafts for my front cover and also made 2 drafts for the contents page. As I want to make the deadline next week, today I am going to work hard at getting my third draft – which will turn into my final copy – of the cover and contents page done.

Today I decided to write a list of the thing I wanted to get done. It helped to be more organised as I could tick the things off once I had done them and it means there was less chance of missing things out.

In today’s lesson I made sure I had everything completed that I wanted to get done. I am still unable to upload onto my blog, but I have saved all my work into a specific file so I know where it is when I can finally upload it. What I plan to do next is to write a brief explanation of what I have done and why I did it.

Yesterday I started thinking about the Music Magazine task. I wasn’t able to do this last week, as I still had some things I need to finish off. I also couldn’t contribute any time during the week as I had to focus on coursework for another subject. But today I planned what 4 research tasks I am going to do. My first one is to research into the conventions of music magazines. I plan to write up my findings during the week.

As I completed the conventions of music magazines, I have now written a questionnaire to hand out to people around the similar age to my target audience.in doing this, it will give me an understanding of what they like to read about and what they expect to see on and in my product. Over the weekend, I plan to record the onto a PowerPoint presentation. As this is the last lesson before the Christmas holidays, I have written another plan so I know what to do over the holidays ready for the New Year.

Over the Christmas Holidays
I started by making a draft of a Prezi – this was because that’s what I planned to do for my fourth research task into music magazines. The draft wasn’t about anything specific as I just wanted to get to know it better so I would be able to make it properly when it came to the research. I also wrote up the initial ideas for my music magazines, which took me longer than I anticipated as I was unsure of what genre of music to go into.

I haven’t done any work during the week, as it was my birthday on Wednesday (17! Who’d have thought!?). And its Friday 13th. Uh oh! But anyway…today I made 2 flat plans for the cover of my magazine. I plan to take photos for my magazine during the week.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have produced my flat plans for the front cover, contents page and double page spread. I have also been thinking of cover lines to put on the cover of my final product and stories to put onto the contents page. I have also decided to write an ‘Exclusive Interview’ as my double page spread. Today, I have being using Photoshop to edit photographs for my final product – this is so I get the different, urban look I have decided to aim for. As I have used Photoshop previously, I didn’t need to familiarize myself with it. However, it did take me a bit of time to remember how to achieve what I wanted.

Yesterday I made a start to my double page spread. I started by writing out different questions I had found in a range of magazines – this is so that I could research into the type of questions that get asked in interviews. Whereas today I began to write the article. It isn’t set out as an article yet, but I am hoping to do that on Friday, if not during the week.

In today’s lesson, I have finished off my double page spread and made a start on my contents page. As I felt I am on track with my work, I haven’t been rushing into things. I have been taking my time so that I get things how I want and am happy with my product.

During the week I took some images that I had considered putting onto my contents page. However as we were allowed to use some images from Google, I decided to use these instead. As I didn’t like the direction my contents page was going in, I decided to start again. Because I went for an urban style magazine, I wanted a contents page that matched the quirkiness of the front cover. It took me the whole lesson to achieve what I did, but I am pleased with my result. I also made a start on some experimental work for the potential colour scheme of my magazine.

I have also started to look through the evaluation booklet and have planned question 1 & 2 for how I am going to present them. I bullet pointed thing I could talk about. Next week, I plan to carry on doing this for the following questions.

I carried on with my evaluation questions today. After I finished bullet pointing all the questions and planning what I wanted to do for each one, I made a start on question 1. I will finish this off over the weekend and during the week I will complete question 2 and hopefully question 3 too.

As I completed questions 2 & 3 of my evaluation during the week, I am able to make a start on question 4 today. It shouldn’t take me too long because I am going to make a Prezi, and I have worked on Prezi before. Over the weekend I will complete question 5. This will help me to stay on track and make sure that I will meet the final deadline.

I have now completed 5 out of 7 of the evaluation questions. During the week I will complete a PowerPoint for question 6, which will leave me to do question 7 during the lesson on Friday. I am confident that I will make my deadline and I am more than pleased with my progress.
