Music Magazine

Due to technical difficulties I have had with my blog, I have had to post my music magazine drafts and covers as a print screen.

Draft 1

This is my first draft. As the images I have taken are all bright and colourful, I want to use colours that were going to match this. I don’t like this cover as I feel it doesn’t look professional and too childish for my target audience. I have cover lines, however I’m not planning to put them on until I make my final product. I don’t like the image in this draft as she is not looking at the camera and I do not want to use a long shot.
For my contents page, I wanted something funky and fun. However as I had technical problems, I had to use Microsoft Word instead of InDesign. I like the colours of this contents page but I do not think I will use this design for my final product as it is too busy for a contents page.

Draft 2

This is the second draft of my final product. I decided to edit one of the photos to see what effect I could get. As I managed to tone down the brightness of the image and take away some of the colour, I felt I could use red, white and black to try to appeal to the higher end of my target audience. I like this photo; however I feel I have the same problem as I did with the first one.
I wanted to go for a more modern and simple look with this contents page so that it matched the look I was going for with the front cover.

Draft 3

Final Copy

This is my third draft, leading into my final product. The title on my front cover of the final product is supposed to be like it is in the third draft, a font called Technine, although it didn’t come out like it should have done. I like my final product as I feel the colours all go well together. I achieved the urban, alternative look I was aiming for and I feel it will attract my target audience.
I am not quite happy with my contents page as I had to make it on Word, again because I had problems with some things. I hope you understand the type of look I was aiming for. As the front cover and double page spread are so busy, I wanted a more simpler look for the contents page so it would not confuse the reader.
I enjoyed making my double page spread and I am proud of it. If I could change anything, it would be the font colour and I feel it does blend in with the background too much. When making the background for this spread, I tried to make the circles more transparent. Despite being able to make them less bold than they were, they didn’t go quite as faint as I had hoped. However I still feel I achieved the look I wanted and that this would appeal to my target audience.
